Satire, Scandal & Printmakers in Georgian London with Alice Loxton

  • Bath Royal Literary and Scientific Institution (BRLSI) 16-18 Queen Square Bath, England, BA1 2HN United Kingdom (map)

Unfortunately Alice Loxton will no longer be able to be with us in Bath for her talk, due to a family bereavement. We apologise for any inconvenience caused but hope you can understand the situation. We are not able to reschedule the event at this point.

Price: £10 (excl. fees)

Join historian Alice Loxton on a scathingly witty romp through a Georgian London at the height of a golden age of scandal as viewed through the acid pens of its leading caricaturists – Thomas Rowlandson, James Gillray and Isaac Cruikshank. Set against a backdrop of royal madness, political intrigue, the birth of modern celebrity, French revolution, American independence and the Napoleonic Wars, the trio turned to bawdy satire with their lampooning of those in power profoundly altering British humour, setting the stage for everything from Gilbert and Sullivan to Private Eye.
